Brazil’s Flamengo from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil won the Summer Octagonal Tournament in South America with a 2-0 victory over Cerro of Uruguay in the seventh and final round of matches. Boca Juniors of Argentina finished third, losing their last match 1-5 to Sao Paulo of Brazil. Other contestants were Nacional of Uruguay, Vasco Da Gama of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Corinthians of Sao Paulo (Brazil), and River Plate of Argentina.
About the Summer Octagonal Tournament
Preseason Soccer Tournaments in South America begin as soon as the season ends. In the 1960s an Octagonal International Tournament was played involving top club teams from South America as well as International teams from Europe such as East Germany and Czechoslovakia.
